Summer Watermelon Refresher

Watermelon is a great summer fruit. There are several healthful compounds in watermelon these include: citrulline and lycopene, two powerful plant compounds that have been linked to lower blood pressure, improved metabolic health, and decreased muscle soreness after exercise. Other nutrients include beta carotene which converts to Vitamin A as the body needs it, and it also contains Vitamin C and is a good source of fiber.

Watermelon hydrates our bodies well and is very alkaline. Eating alkaline food can help us to maintain our health, and watermelon is one of the most alkaline of all fruit. Not to be left out, the following drink is delicious and refreshing.

It is no wonder that August 3rd it was National Watermelon Day. Watermelon deserves its own celebratory day!

Watermelon Summer Refresher

 Serves 4

Preparation time: 10 minutes

 

3 cups watermelon, rind removed and cut into chunks

4 cups of filtered water

2 whole organic lemons, washed and juiced

4 whole limes, washed and juiced

3-4 packets Stevia (SweetLeaf ®)

 

Combine all the ingredients in a blender or extractor. Run it until the watermelon is completely liquefied. If you have time, chill the drink or add ice cubes and enjoy!
